English for Academic Purposes

Reading Area Community College’s EAP Program offers credit-bearing courses for bilingual Spanish/English and non-native English speaking students. In other words, our students are admitted to RACC, eligible for financial aid, and work toward their college degree. EAP courses are also available to those who only seek to improve their English language proficiency.

Our student population, both U.S. resident and international, is diverse. Our students come from 29+ countries, including the United States of America, and speak 48 languages.

Our Mission

The academic EAP Program prepares multilingual students for success with college-level reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.  In support of RACC’s mission, we are committed to nurturing student success through:

  • Cultivating a familial community of faculty, staff, and multilingual students.
  • Fostering students’ academic skills and independence.
  • Serving students at varing levels of English proficiency.
  • Engaging in equitable and purposeful collaboration between faculty and learning support staff.

Our Core Values

  • Sensitivity
  • Mutual Respect
  • Student engagement
  • Comprehensive support
  • Resourcefulness
  • High-quality instruction
  • Belonging

Registration Process

To register for EAP courses, a student needs to apply for RACC, take a placement test, and submit FAFSA, an application for financial aid. Placement into EAP courses is based on scores on the reading and writing sections of the placement test. After the placement test, a student should meet with an academic advisor or Eleisha Moreno, Interim EAP Program Coordinator, to register for appropriate EAP courses.
