MAT 034 - Pathway to Statistics


4 Credit Hours

This course builds a foundation in the basic concepts of descriptive statistics along with the necessary algebra to prepare students for an introductory statistics course. Students will work with authentic data, engage with relevant technology, and reason statistically and algebraically. Realisticapplications, hands-on projects, and an emphasis on modeling will help students connect statistics and algebra to their daily lives and future courses.

 

This 4-credit course is for students who place at the second developmental math level or who have successfully completed MAT018/020.This course is specifically for students whose program of study requires MAT210 Statistics or who are in a program of study that offers Statistics as a choice to meet their General Education Requirements. Upon successful completion of this course, it is recommended that students take MAT210 Statistics; however, successful completion also prepares students for MAT150 Foundations of Math. This course does not meet the requirements for students who must take MAT030, Algebra I or MAT035, Algebra I with Quadratics such as those who intend to take CHE120, Principles of Chemistry or MAT110, Algebra II.

 

Prerequisite(s): MAT 020   with a grade of “C” or better, or appropriate score on Math placement exam.
