Machine Tool Technology, AAS


STEM Division

The Machine Tool Technology Program is designed to provide the student with the skills and knowledge required of personnel entering industrial positions as a parts inspector, computer numerical control (CNC) machine operator/programmer, machinist, tool and die designer, and related professions. Students may complete multiple levels of NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) credentials as they progress through the program of study, and these credentials allow students to have multiple entry and exit points that meet their career and educational needs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective technical writing skills.
  • Analyze, interpret, and prepare mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of semi precision, precision layout, and measuring tools.
  • Operate the machine tools used in manufacturing according to National Institute Metalworking Skills (NIMS) standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing part programs, set-up and operating CNC milling according to industrial standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in designing parts, generating toolpaths and CNC code in 2D and 3D.
