The Medical Office/Health Records Specialist Program is designed to provide students with the competencies necessary to obtain employment in a variety of roles within the medical office and in the health records field. Graduates are prepared to work in a variety of healthcare environments such as physicians’ offices, hospitals, clinics, specialty practices, health insurance offices, and nursing homes. College credit may be granted through Tech Prep articulation agreements between RACC and approved secondary schools.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate technical competency in computer skills to produce correspondence from various formatted sources with speed and accuracy.
- Apply medical office procedures and HIPAA laws to set priorities, organize work, and use appropriate electronic medical technology to fulfill responsibilities of the position.
- Exhibit effective writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills individually and as part of teams in face-to-face and virtual environments within homogeneous and heterogeneous cultures in a healthcare setting.
- Utilize standards and practices in the healthcare environment to fulfill the expectations of the mission of the healthcare organization while adhering to the ethics policy.
