Maintenance Technician I, CC

This certificate program provides students with no technical background the opportunity to obtain entry level skills-training for employment in a mechanic or maintenance position at a manufacturing plant. The program provides a solution for the incumbent worker looking to move from production AND a solution for prospective students seeking “skills training.” Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of manufacturing and manufacturing techniques, then develop technical skills with mechanical power transmission devices, pneumatics, and hydraulics, as well as troubleshooting techniques. Students will also learn the core principles, functions and operation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), as well as alternating (AC) and direct (DC) current electricity, as found in a typical manufacturing environment. All course material is supplemented with practical hands-on exposure. 

Success in this program certifies completion of the first component of the Advanced Material Integrated Systems Technology (AMIST I Certified) program. 

Successful completion also grants the student credit towards the Mechatronics Engineering Technology (MET) Certificate or Associates degree through RACC’s Workforce and Economic Development/Community Education Division.

  • Describe current manufacturing techniques 
  • Describe common applications found in mechanical drive and fluid power components in industrial manufacturing environments. 
  • Apply the core principles of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to operations in a typical manufacturing environment. 
  • Apply the principles of Alternating (AC) and Direct (DC) Current electricity to perform electrical wiring and systems troubleshooting.
