The Fine Arts Certificate Program is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills in visual arts, covering the basics of drawing, painting, design and historical perspective of the visual arts. This background can be used as an entry into the Fine Arts Transfer Associate in Arts degree, and could lead into a visual arts related degree at a 4-year college.
Program Competencies
- Use basic art media (materials) to create artworks using proficient craftsmanship.
- Use the basic elements of design and color theory in the creation of artworks.
- Demonstrate growth in the creative process using divergent or creative thinking and risk taking, using appropriate materials.
- Recognize that different human experiences and cultures represent different aesthetic, creative processes and points of view.
- Reflect on, either orally or in writing, the creative process and product using self-critique or group critique to synthesize ideas or solutions, connecting ideas in a new way.
- Evaluate, either orally or in writing, the creative process and product using self-critique or group critique to synthesize ideas of solutions, connecting ideas in a new way.
- Use Art History, in an oral or written manner, to appreciate art and develop a basic visual arts vocabulary using emotional and intellectual responses.
Academic Certificates consist of courses that are imbedded in degree programs which prepare students for advanced courses or are subject to a selective admission process. Academic certificates may be awarded to students upon completion of a defined course sequence and/or prior to their degree completion.
