The Theatre Arts Program provides pre-professional theatrical training in the context of a liberal arts education preparing students for transfer to a four-year institution as well as entry into the local theatre community. Students learn and apply the skills needed to plan, direct, and act in theatrical projects within the social and historical context and canon of theatre and dramatic literacy history. The program also fosters the development of imaginative, communication, critical thinking, and social interaction skills for non-theatre majors.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze text as it relates to performances that embody the writer’s and/or director’s intentions.
  • Identify major developments in theatre and screenwriting/performance writing from historical, cultural, and stylistic perspectives.
  • Define the roles of each component in a theatrical or screenwriting/performance writing team and apply one or more of these roles to the theatrical or screenwriting/performance writing process.
  • Select, prepare, and present representative monologues and scenes or acts from a range of sources, integrating theory and process in the creation of a character.
