Social Sciences/Human Services Division
This program offers students planning to complete a Bachelors degree a broad knowledge base in the Social Sciences. Students can take electives from several Social Science disciplines or choose to concentrate in Anthropology, History or Sociology. Social Science majors can go on to pursue degrees and careers in anthropology, education, history, political science and sociology.
Program Competencies
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of American history and/or Western Civilization and be able to discuss historical interpretation and data.
- Differentiate among the fundamental theoretical perspectives in sociology and/or anthropology.
- Explain research methods used in the Social Sciences and evaluate conclusions derived from that research.
- Articulate how the disciplines within Social Sciences can be used to explain social issues.
- Describe similarities and differences in the experience of humans in diverse cultures over time, including the impact of major historical events and political and social structures.

Required Program of Study
See General Education Requirements (36 Hours) Major Requirements (12 Credits)
Social Science Concentration: Select 3 courses with ANT, ECO, HIS, POL or SOC prefix
Anthropology or Sociology Concentration: Select 3 courses with ANT or SOC prefix
History Concentration: Select 3 courses with HIS prefix
and Electives (12 Credit Hours)
You are required to take a Math, MAT 210 is recommended. You are required to take a Communications course, COM 151 is recommended.
It is strongly recommended that students meet with their faculty advisor early in the program to select general education courses. Please refer to the Social Science curriculum guide on our website. It is the responsibility of the student to meet with an admissions representative from the four-year institution to determine its transfer policies. |
